I wanted to give a pretty chill but much-requested update on our dogs! I feel so bad sometimes because the human children came along and took up so much time and attention and– yes– real estate on the blog/ig feed! But rest assured… Our dogs are our children, too. We love them so much, and once the human babies go to sleep, all 3 dogs pile into our bed with us and get all the snuggles, treats, and love.
Nothing major has changed; Gia is still the diva, Banksie is the emotional support dog, and Buster is the protector. But I know people ask about them often so a few updates!
Health: All the dogs recently (4 months ago) got full workups and panels done, and all seem to be in perfect health! We are so grateful for this. Gia is a 8.5 year old Great Dane who acts like a puppy… amazing. Their teeth are all in great condition, hearts all sound and look good, liver levels perfect. I had no reason to think otherwise, but when you have 3 large breed, aging, plant-based animals, it feels better to be vigilant. I always recommend having panels done as often as you can afford (we shoot for 2x/year).
Beds: we get asked about their dog beds often, mostly whenever people see them in the background in stories. It is hard to find truly huge dog beds that aren’t a complete and utter eyesore, which also have some structure/arm rests to make them feel snuggled as opposed to just flat pallet, and that aren’t too smooshy (large breeds’ joints do best on firmer surfaces). This is what we use; they are super attractive, come in various colors, have lasted us forever and basically look like dog sofas. (Choose “Jumbo Plus” if you have a Dane!)
Food: Our doggies are still on Wild Earth Dog Food, which they’ve been on for about a year and a half now! They have done so well on it, we see no reason to switch. They also take Wild Earth supplements now… We see a noticeable difference when Gia doesn’t take her hip & joint support supplement 🙁
I wrote a post last year outlining all the reasons why I love this food for our precious doggies; but the highlights are:
-31% complete protein
-superfood ingredient
-omega 3’s for healthy skin and coat
-no artificial ingredients or preservatives
-all 10 essential amino acids dogs require
Basically I saw Wild Earth on Shark Tank and fell in love and had to try it, and our dogs got hooked.
Reminder: There are too many dogs and not enough homes for them. They get put down at a rapid rate (especially chihuahuas, pitties, and black dogs), and its absolutely heartbreaking. Please consider adopting or fostering; you will be an absolute hero. If you are looking for a companion animal, might I suggest Petfinder. You can search by all sorts of filters (breed, age (lots of puppies), etc) and find your perfect match.
