Last night was the annual Dallas Wine Opener gala, hosted by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Let me start out by saying that the event was amazing; gorgeously executed, fun raffles, lots of wine to taste… and the guest speaker– a now-37-year-old woman who has three children and has been battling CF her entire life– delivered an emotionally moving speech with a sincere plea to the crowd to get involved and donate funds. When she was first diagnosed at age three, her parents were told that she would not live past the age of seven. 34 years later there is still no cure for this disease, but researchers are getting closer and closer to finding one, and she is determined to live to see her children grow up. A couple of photos at the event (pardon the bad quality; it was a wine event, after all!):
Regarding fashion: I always like to be a little outside the box, and this dress always fits the bill. I maintain that polka dots are not just for little girls and Lucille Ball. I think they are so fun and “cheeky.” I do, however, feel that they should generally be on a classically shaped garment, and usually be black, white, or neutral (to avoid wandering into “costume” territory). I also feel strongly that if you’re donning the dots, you need to keep your hair and accessories extremely minimal so that the overall effect is not too busy. The gown I wore to the event is by Jill Stuart but is unfortunately sold out everywhere; here are some of my favorite dotted pieces that are on my current wish list:
maxi skirt //crop top with circle skirt //balconette bra //off-the-shoulder mini dress //palazzo pants //tea length dress //button-down blouse //vegan suede clutch
